Italy - Verona

The town of Romeo and Juliet
I jumped on a bus from Riva del Garda to Verona, it was a brilliant 11/2 hour trip along the side of lake Garda. Unfortunately the luxury of the air conditioning on the bus was too much and I fell asleep for most of it. I arrived in Verona, the town of Romeo and Juliet in the afternoon and had until midnight to explore (when my train for Rome left).

They fight, Tybalt falls..
Walking around the town there are many tributes to the play including the above, the site of the fight between Romeo and Tybalt. There is also Juliets tomb and the house of Capulet with a statue of Juliet on the balcony.
Good views of the town from Castel San Pietro

High above Verona was Castel San Pietro, a top spot for a view over the town. If you go up make sure you take some beers as it is a great spot to sit and enjoy.

Castel San Pietro from across the Adige River
Verona was a really nice town, if I had more time it would have been fun to go and check out plays at the ancient Arena dating from the 1st century and still in use today.. Also perhaps check the local phone book for Montague and Capulet, most probably ex directory. I then jumped on the night train to Rome which turned out to be the worst train ride of my whole trip.
